My work space

Here it is! My little work space where I study, do homework, type articles and browse pinterest. ;) Needless to say, I spend a lot of time at this space, so making it pretty has become a priority. I've hung water colour and pastel art on the wall in front for a pop of color and it works wonders! I also added a mason jar that I plan on filling with everything good that happens in 2014 to remind me to continually be thankful in the everyday! More than excited to read them all when 2015 comes around. ;)

Christmas & pumpkins

When thanksgiving celebrations are over and Christmas fills everyone's hearts and minds, I find it hard to part with the mini pumpkins and gourds of autumn. Silly, I know, but I love autumn. Instead of letting the pumpkins and gourds find a new life in the garbage, I thought that a little face lift could help ease them into Christmas time. All it took was a coating of silver spray paint and these guys are Christmas ready. I decided to spray only the mini pumpkins to let the gourds give the display some natural color. On top of a few doilies and with candle sticks and sparkly leaves in between, these almost-tossed pumpkins make a fantastic transition into winter, I'd say. :)

Christmas decorating going on in full force over here! (no complaints here.)

DIY card making

I'm a believer in a simple, thoughtful gift, and a handmade greeting card is a creative way to let someone know you appreciate them. I love to give these cards to friends for birthdays, thank-yous, or just to say hello. These are a few that I designed and made the other day. I hope they will inspire you to get out your scissors and glue and get crafty. ;)
I used card stock from a local craft shop and stamp cutters to create elegant edges. The little bows on the right card I free handed with a pair of scissors, and I used a circle cutter for the circle on the left.
When it comes to making cards, there are no rules. As long as it comes from the heart, anything goes. :) Happy crafting!

Polka dot nails: DIY

One of my favourite designs of all time are polka dots. Simple, yet classic and so much fun. In the past I've just used the nail polish brush to create the dots, but I recently discovered a much a easier and effective way to create wonderfully circular dots. All you have to do is stick a pin into the eraser of a pencil! That's all there is to it. Possibly the easiest DIY I have ever done!
Supplies needed: two different polishes {I chose red and white, but the possibilities are    endless!}
                                 : your DIY dotting tool

Step 1: Paint your nails in alternating colours. For one hand paint three white and two red, and on the other do the opposite!
Step 2: Take your dotting tool and begin to dot the opposite colour on each nail. To create smaller dots, use the side of the pin. For larger dots use the very front of the pin. I like to use all different sizes!

Once finished, seal your nails with a clear topcoat and marvel at the masterpiece in front of you. Happy dotting! :)

Isn't he precious? I found the idea from modcloth!

Valentine's Heart Warmers

I love it when Valentines Day rolls around each year. I love how it gives us an excuse to show a little love, watch a mushy chick flick, and eat far too much chocolate. In the spirit of Valentines Day, I was inspired to create these fabric heart warmers!

To create these beauties all you need is your choice of fabric, a needle and thread, and some rice! Cut two separate hearts and begin to sew on the perimeter. When you are 3/4 finished sewing, fill the heart up with rice. White rice, brown rice, any type of rice works! Flax seeds also work great. Once your heart is filled up, finish off the sewing. To end off your thread, loop your needle through the same spot about five times and tie off your thread. Yay! Pat yourself on the back, you crafty devil, you!

I used a soft fleece for the first heart, loved it so much, and decided to try a floral pattern as well! Just pop one in the microwave for 45 seconds and enjoy! I like putting them on my back, or even keeping one in my pocket when it's cold outside!
Have fun crafting & sharing these with loved ones! (Or just keeping them for yourself. Trust me, you'll want to... :)
