Seventeen!

Hello friends! I know I haven't been blogging regularly lately, but with all of this glorious weather we've been having, I find myself trying to squeeze every minute of it with hikes, runs, and tanning on the back deck! :) Also, yesterday was my birthday and I turned seventeen! I had such an amazing day spent with my family. We went to our favourite lake for a BBQ, and the day was so relaxing. Hopefully you can see how beautiful it was from the pictures below! Nature was at its best, and we were surrounded by towering evergreens and  beautiful streams. In the evening I went to my youth's summer party. Chad Veech, a speaker from down South, spoke on faith and it was so amazing! I definitely left feeling encouraged and challenged to have more faith in God's plan for my life. Then chaos was let loose in a massive water fight outside. I was thoroughly soaked. And thoroughly soaked many unassuming victims. ;) Here's a little piece of my day.....

This past year of my life has been life changing. God has shown me so much about who He is and what He has for my life. At the end of Grade eleven, I read through all of my journals and was amazed at how much I've grown. Little things that used to bother me don't anymore. Mean comments from people that used to hurt me, don't affect me anymore. And I can give only one reason: Faith. If it wasn't for faith, I would be a worrying mess. Faith is the reason I don't let mean comments affect me anymore, because I know at the very base of my soul that there is a God who loves me and accepts me exactly the way I am, every flaw and imperfection included. There is a God who knows the plan He has perfected for my life, and the divine purpose that He has blessed me with. I feel so encouraged to look back at everything that God has done, because it makes me even more excited to experience what is to come! On my own, I could never have done a musical and fit in time for youth group. On my own, I could never have written a blog and still keep my grades up. God's strength has carried me through this past year, and I am so looking forward to this next one! :)

Dots, Bows and a little bit of citrus

Maybe it's the fact that I'm a dedicated list maker, or maybe its because I have a swarm of thoughts going around in my head, but I thought it was time to make a list of things that made me smile this week. And really, smiling is always the best part of any week :)

The fact that Spring Break starts in just. one. day.

The super buttery, delicious croissants that have made their way into my stomach for the first time in five years. Friends, never underestimate the power of a good croissant. It will change your life.

Day six of the March Photo Challenge. Are you doing this too? I can't believe it's day 8 already! Check it out here.

Finding a new and amazing pinner on Pinterest. I don't know about you, but this reaaaaally makes me smile. For all of my fellow pinners, have any of you had recurring dreams that sound something like, fetching pins, fetching pins, fetching pins, in some sort of melodic tune? Yeah. I may be going a little bit crazy.

Planning my dad's birthday party! Sshhhh, it's a surprise! :)

The warm purring cat that I have on my lap right now. Oh, never mind, there she goes!

Having an outfit post after a few weeks of having a dedicated and hardcore food blog...  I just can't help myself. Maybe my blog should be called Vivi K Foodstyle?  You know you love it.

Peeling an orange and not having a sneaky squirt of citrus plunge into my eye. This, dear friends, is a miracle.

Much love, Vivi

Green Gables

For months I've been on the look out for a pair of vintage booties. Not just because they're beautiful and trendy, but because I'll actually be wearing them in a play! What play you say? Anne of Green Gables of course! :) Finally, after many trips of scouring the mall to find "the" shoes, at long last I found them! I went to the counter beaming and ready to make my purchase, I was so happy for my search to finally be over. They were regularly priced at forty dollars, which I was fine with paying. Buuuuut then... The lovely lady told me in a matter of fact kind of way that everything in store, including all vintage Anne of Green Gables worthy booties were on sale for three for ten dollars. Woah. Slow down. You mean three items, for ten dollars?! Ohhh yes. This is my kind of deal. I ended up walking away with two necklaces as well as these shoes! For the price of only ten dollars! Don't you just love it when deals sneak up on you like that? :)

Much love, Vivi

If we canteloupe, lettuce marry

Life is wonderful.
The moment when you're...

eating someone else's delicious sandwich. They realise this. They demand my sandwich in return. I sheepishly slide over a sat-upon liver paste sandwich. Of course they totally got the better end of that deal. Pfff. Lucky bum.

tutoring a younger boy in chemistry and slipping on the word "acids", due to braces, saying instead a rather vulgar body part. Laughing at myself hysterically, because, well, it was hilarious, if I do say so myself. Too bad he had noooo idea what was going on in this loopy mind of mine.

doing highly attractive faces to my friend across the choir room and not so soon after realising that the entire tenor section was pretty entranced. From the looks on their faces it was as if they had never seen a girl pull a Donald duck face before. How sad.

waking up to a wonderfully warm cat bum. Oh, did I mention it was in my face? Yay! Cat bum! Little one never fails to surprise me.

getting the offer to go out for coffee from my brother. And he's paying. Oh yes. Brother from heaven.

making up a pretty darn intelligent vegetable rap. By myself. In the shower. Just living the fast life folks!

Much love, Vivi

Long hair

Sometimes people ask me why I've never had bangs. I tell them I'm glad they don't remember when I did! When I was in grade six, I had a rebellious moment at the hairdressers. (aka my mom in the kitchen) I wanted bangs. I needed bangs. My whole entire life depended on my bangs. You know, the soft "flowing in the wind' kind of bangs you see in magazines or movies. So, I told her to chop away and awaited the results eagerly. Because, of course, my hair would sway to the wind just like Carrie Bradshaw's. And if my hair looked like hers, what was stopping me from having a closet like hers? It's reasonable logic people. At least I thought it was. Let's just say it was more thick and short than luscious and flowing.
Experience with bangs? Interesting, but I learnt my lesson!

The saga of the scarf

You know those really amazing people who can whip up a scarf in an evening?  Unfortunately, I don't fit into that category juuuuust yet, but I'm on my way! At the beginning of Christmas break, I thought I would give myself a small goal. Something creative and rewarding, but not involving an endless amount work. Well. Let's just say if you do happen to want an endless amount of work, make yourself a circle scarf! There's a lot more than meets the eye to this cuddly guy. It all started at Michael's on a hunt for wool. It must have been two hours before I had made my choice. Nooo this ones too scratchy, nooo this one won't go with my wardrobe... When at last I had made it through the till, out of the parking lot, and back home, I eagerly starting the search for knitting needles. And to my dismay, I could find only one. Back in the car, back to Michael's, back to the endless aisle of knitting goodies, and at last, back home and fully equipped to begin!

After four days of knitting, the scarf was finally complete! Or so I thought...  My stubborn scarf decided that four days of knitting just wasn't enough. The edges completely turned inwards, making a long tube somewhat resembling a sewage pipe. Mmmm yes. sewage pipes! The only way to fix it was to sew another piece equal to the one I had just knitted. I knitted and knitted until I was actually dreaming about knitting. Is that a bad sign? ;)

I persevered and finished the second piece after two weeks! The two pieces were happily united, and walaah! At last, the epic saga of the scarf had reached it's sweet, sweet, end. :)
